Surface area is the total area of all the faces or surfaces of a three-dimensional object, measured in square units. For example, a cube with side 5 has a surface area of 150 square units. Each 3D shape has its own formula. Unlike 2D area, surface area accounts for every face of the solid.

Varies by shape: Cube (A = 6s²), Rectangular box (A = 2(lw + lh + wh)), Sphere (A = 4πr²), Cylinder (A = 2πr(r + h)), Cone (A = πr(r + s) where s = √(r² + h²)).Each 3D shape has its own surface area formula. A cube multiplies side squared by 6. A sphere uses 4 times pi times radius squared. A cylinder adds two circular bases and the curved side. A cone requires calculating the slant height first, then applying the formula. The calculator applies the correct formula for your chosen shape.

Surface area is the total area of all outer surfaces (measured in square units). Volume is the space inside the shape (measured in cubic units). A cube with side 5 has surface area 150 and volume 125.
A cone has a circular base and a curved side. The curved side's area depends on slant height, not just height. Slant height is the diagonal distance from the apex to the base edge, calculated as √(r² + h²).
