Numbers and standalone punctuation marks are typically not counted as words. A number like "2023" is one word, but a comma or period alone does not count. Hyphenated words like "well-known" are usually counted as one word.
Character count with spaces includes every letter, number, punctuation mark, and space. Character count without spaces excludes spaces but keeps everything else, giving you a tighter measurement for platforms that ignore whitespace.
