This calculator measures the volume of space you need to fill and converts it to cubic yards—the standard unit for ordering gravel. It also calculates the weight based on gravel density, helping you understand delivery requirements and costs.
Enter the length and width of your project area in feet and the depth in inches. The calculator converts these measurements to cubic yards and multiplies by gravel density (default 1.4 tons per cubic yard) to estimate total weight. Results include cubic feet, tons, and kilograms.
Volume (cubic yards) = (Length × Width × Depth in feet) ÷ 27; Weight (tons) = Volume × DensityFirst, convert depth from inches to feet by dividing by 12. Then multiply length × width × depth to get cubic feet. Divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. Finally, multiply cubic yards by the gravel density (typically 1.4 tons per cubic yard) to find total weight. The calculator handles all conversions automatically.

Driveways typically need 2–4 inches for stability and drainage. Pathways work with 1–2 inches. Heavy-traffic areas benefit from 4–6 inches. Shallow layers compact quickly.
