Gauge pressure measures pressure relative to atmospheric pressure (reads 0 at sea level), while absolute pressure includes atmospheric pressure. Tire and water pressure readings are almost always gauge pressure. To convert gauge to absolute, add 14.7 PSI or 1 atm.
