A tip calculator computes the tip amount and total bill (including tip) based on the original bill amount and tip percentage. It also divides the total evenly among a specified number of people, showing each person's share of both the bill and tip.
Enter your bill amount, select or input a tip percentage, and specify how many people are splitting. The calculator multiplies the bill by the tip percentage to find the tip amount, adds it to the bill for the total, then divides by the number of people to show how much each person owes. It also breaks down the per-person tip and bill components.
Tip Amount = Bill × Tip % ÷ 100
Total Bill = Bill + Tip Amount
Per Person Total = Total Bill ÷ Number of PeopleThe first formula applies the tip percentage to your original bill to calculate the tip amount. The second adds the tip to the original bill. The final formula divides the total equally among diners. You can also calculate tip per person and bill per person by dividing their respective amounts by the number of people.

| Bill: £80, Tip: 18%, Split: 2 people | Tip: £14.40, Total: £94.40, Per person: £47.20 (£7.20 tip, £40 bill) | Standard 18% tip for good service at a restaurant—most common scenario |
| Bill: $120, Tip: 20%, Split: 4 people | Tip: $24, Total: $144, Per person: $36 ($6 tip, $30 bill) | 20% is expected for excellent service; splitting evenly among a group of four |

Both are acceptable, but tipping on the pre-tax bill is slightly more common and fair (since tax varies by location). This calculator uses your entered bill; clarify with your group which you're using to avoid confusion.
Tipping norms vary widely. In the US, 15–20% is standard; in Europe, 5–10% or nothing is common; in Asia, tipping is often not expected. Adjust the percentage to match your region and service quality.
Yes. If you enter the post-tax bill, your tip will be on the total including tax. If you want to tip on pre-tax only, enter just the food/drink subtotal and adjust the percentage accordingly.
This calculator assumes equal splits. For uneven splits, use the bill per-person and tip per-person figures as a baseline, then adjust individual portions up or down before settling up.
Use this calculator to pre-decide your tip before approaching the card machine. You can agree with the suggested amount, adjust it, or enter a custom amount based on your calculation.
Run the calculator twice: once at 18% for the group and once at 25% for that person's share. They can then pay their adjusted amount while others pay the standard split.
